Improving outcomes and financial efficiency

Evaluation shows this approach can positively transform the quality of engagement in these settings, in line with PBS guidance, as well as provide family members, clinical and support staff with improved ways of communicating and engaging with patients and residents, reducing the focus on behaviours of concern and medication, and achieving significant savings across the system.

Evaluation of the Lomakatsi service on Dove Ward, Hertfordshire Partnership Foundation Trust includes evidence for:

• A reduction of recorded incidents of behaviour of concern and subsequent PRN subscribing by 100%;
• HONOS scores were improved for all clients involved with the programme, while anecdotal evidence for one patient, on an LD acute ward, indicates that
discharge was six months earlier than anticipated leading to a non-cashable saving equal to the cost of the project;
• Staff are now more proactive and confident in approaching activities and are more engaged
