Direct Creative Rehabilitation

Activities with People with learning disabilities or mental health conditions in a group setting

Bringing the best out in people and how they interact with each other

LOMAKATSI is the first Creative Rehabilitation which combines music and arts based therapeutic approaches into a coherent rehabilitation model. Strong evidence for the effectiveness of the LOMAKATSI intervention has been demonstrated in both acute and community settings.

Creative Rehabilitation provides individuals with an opportunity to explore their stories creatively, develop natural talents and gain skills supporting a more independent life in the community. The approach can positively transform the quality of engagement on the ward and in supported living and community settings. It provides family members, clinical and support staff in those settings, with improved ways of communicating and engaging with patients and residents, reducing the focus on challenging behaviours and medication
Music, music medicine and music production provide a framework for our method that also includes art expression and Feldenkrais bodywork combined with positive psychology. LOMAKATSI provides a programme that assists participants to express themselves and on a physical level to increase their range of movement and self-awareness. Each person’s journey is recorded during the programme. This allows the individual to measure their progress through making their own videos and is an essential part of their rehabilitation, as they can see the positive changes taking place. The sessions are group-based and a day long to encourage the development of social interaction between people.
